Hello from Sri Lanka!!
NEW YOUTUBE VIDEO!
The internet of the place where we are staying isn’t that good and it is taking hours to process the video. So the video might appear as private but that is because it hasn’t proccessed. If you check back on it in a couple of hours (or maybe even days lol) the video will appear, it all depends on how nice the internet is.
I like this video a lot. I had a lot of fun making it and I also tested out various new formats.
The next video will be about Mumbai, and then the Sri Lanka videos are going to come out.
I think that most of us already know that social media is fake.
So I’m not going to talk much about that today (but I’ll talk about more about it soon).
Not only is it fake, but it is taking away from us enjoying the moment.
It’s a lot better to see places through your eyes and not your phone's camera screen.
Something I realized while being in Sri Lanka and seeing its magnificent views is that yes, the view here is incredible, and if you’re here, you might as well take a couple of photos. But don’t travel just to take photos and to share them on Instagram. That is a huge waste of time, money, and energy.
Luckily, now we have the ability to capture moments and not rely on our memory. So, you might as well take advantage of that. But I want you to realize that by experiencing a place through the lens of a camera, you are missing out on something much deeper.
The best photos are the ones that remind you of an authentic experience, not the ones staged just to prove you were there.
And sometimes, it's okay to not take a photo of that one sunset or waterfall.
More on this in the Sri Lanka video :)
📚 Book Recommendation
This week, I finished reading The Millionare Fastlane by MJ DeMarco, Dopamine Nation by Anna Lembke, and A Simpler Life by The School of Life.
The Millionare Fastlane by M.J. DeMarco is a great book on building a business.
According to this book, there are 3 main ways to make tons of money:
Side Walk
Living paycheck to paycheck, with no financial planning.
Prioritizes spending and consumption over saving or investing.
Focused on instant gratification, often resulting in financial instability and vulnerability.
Won’t make you ton of money
The Slow Lane
A 9-5
Investing 20% of each paycheck into your retirement account and working 30-50 years to retire
Being cheap with money, not time
Might make you tons of but it’ll take decades. And there is literally a limit to how much you can make (because you work a job and earn per hour).
The Fast Lane 😎
Creating your own business
Creating systems and automating your business so you don’t have to spend your time working
Being cheap with time, not money
Can make you tons of money in 5-10 years.
The author says that the fastlane isn’t about creating another job for yourself. The goal of the fastlane is to create something (a business) that works for you (or sell) so you can retire early.
For most of the book, it explains why you shouldn’t be an employee and why you should pursue the fastlane.
The other half is about pursuing it and what to do.
I thought it was a good book with good insights. It’s one of those books that can be life-changing if read by the right person at the right time.
Dopamine Nation was a very interesting book.
I hadn’t read or watched much on dopamine before except for an Andrew Huberman podcast and a couple of Ali Adaal YouTube videos. So I enjoyed reading this book a lot.
It talks about the pain and pleasure balance and how pain and pleasure are opposite sides of the balance scale.
This book explains that when you pursue too much pleasure, the scale balances out, and as a consequence you end up experiencing pain. The same with the other way around.
The book is full of very interesting stories from the author’s patients.
I’d recommend this book.
I didn’t like A Simple Life by The School of Life.
I love the concept of living a simple life. But this book wasn’t it.
The reason why is because I’m not the book's target audience. It is mainly for people who have never touched upon this subject.
If you are one of those people, then you may like this book.
If not, don’t waste your time reading it.
