Small, Insignificant, and Unconscious Decisions
Hello from Medellín!
Here’s something I wrote in my journal that I want to share this week:
We all have paths that lead us to completely different places. One small decision or word can change the course of that path. Something as insignificant as me saying no to Project Goat may have set me on a completely different life trajectory or delayed my journey to the one I was always meant to reach. Small, seemingly insignificant (in the moment), and sometimes unconscious decisions rule our lives. That’s why it’s important to keep expanding your worldview and consciousness; it allows you to see the bigger picture and connect things you wouldn’t have otherwise.
📚Books I read and recommendations
This week, I read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. It’s a book about living creatively without fear. Gilbert makes a case that ideas are like living things trying to find you, and your job is to be open, curious, and not take yourself too seriously.
The book itself surprised me. I thought this was going to be a bad "WOOOOOO JUST BE CREATIVE WOOOOOO" type of book. And for that reason, I almost didn’t read it. But instead, I devoured this book in a couple of sittings. The topics and advice are simple on the surface, but valuable and refreshing.
If you’ve read The War Of Art, The Creative Act, or Real Artists Don’t Starve, this could be a great follow-up read as it touches similar topics but in a different style.
🎙️Great Podcast
I’ve been listening to more podcasts recently, and this one was great.
💬 Thought-Provoking Quote
“It seems that the more places I see and experience, the bigger I realize the world to be. The more I become aware of, the more I realize how relatively little I know of it, how many places I have still to go, how much more there is to learn. Maybe that’s enlightenment enough—to know that there is no final resting place of the mind, no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom, at least for me, means realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.”
